Title: Neural processing of dynamic visual stimuli (using EEG)

Department: Human Aligned Video AI (HAVA) lab & Institute of Informatics (IVI)

Supervision: Anne Zonneveld (a.w.zonneveld@uva.nl), dr. Iris Groen (i.i.a.groen@uva.nl) and dr. Pascal Mettes (p.s.m.mettes@uva.nl)

Summary:

Human visual perception occurs in a dynamic world. Although static images are frequently used in visual perception studies, they do not encompass the full range of possible events and lack context. Therefore in the current project we will focus on the perception of natural dynamic visual stimuli, i.e. videos. Specifically, we will investigate the neural processing of natural videos vs static images using EEG-recordings.

Duties:

Contribute to setting up the study design
Assist in EEG data collection
Analyze EEG data
Optionally, explore analyses using deep neural networks (DNNs) if time permits

Requirements:

Familiarity with EEG-recordings is preferred
Familiarity with programming (Python) is preferred
Interest in visual perception

Benefits:

Gain hands-on experience in EEG recording and analysis
Receive mentorship in neuroscience and computational techniques
Potential opportunities to contribute to publications
Start date: February 2025

End date: June 2025

Exact dates can be discussed.

Location: Amsterdam. As we will be collecting EEG data, in-person availability is required.
