How do multilingual kids develop two vocabularies?

  • Anywhere

We are looking for MBCS students who are interested in child multilingualism for a project on vocabulary development. Specifically, we have datasets from multilingual kids with diverse language backgrounds (e.g., Dutch-English, Dutch-Turkish, Dutch-Frisian, Dutch-Berber) and we are looking for a student who can help us to examine how children develop vocabulary knowledge in two languages.
Some of the questions we aim to answer are: What does the children’s bilingual lexicon look like? Does their bilingual lexicon change with age? Do children develop different types of bilingual lexicons depending on their language backgrounds (i.e., how (dis)similar their languages are)?

The research will be carried out in (a remote) collaboration with researchers from Utrecht University, Leiden University and potentially also Singapore University. Proficiency in Dutch is NOT needed for this position. Experience with network analysis (ORAlite software) is an advantage, but not required.
