Internship in HCI at CWI

Interested in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research, and its synergy with Cognitive (Neuro-) Science? At CWI DIS, we welcome applicants interested in the areas of Augmented/Virtual/Mixed Reality, Physiological Body-centric Computing, Multimodal Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, or Affective Computing.

You will be doing a scientific internship with me in Amsterdam at CWI as part of your master’s thesis project. Stipend possible provided your current GPA is greater or equal to 8. Strongly encourage publishing at top-tier conference venues (e.g., CHI, UIST, Augmented Humans, CogSci, …), and will mentor you as such.

Topics:

• Neural correlates of avatar embodiment in VR

• Neural processing of AI labels (EEG)

• Agency and autonomy in shared avatar embodiment

• Physiologically-aware and adaptive user interfaces

—> Currently: I’m looking for a student to work on EEG and Avatar Self-extension (see https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3772363.3798899). This will need to be in close collaboration with the FMG Research Lab, who would support EEG + VR experiments.

If an existing topic interests you, please get in touch via email. Include your recent CV (.pdf), your transcripts, and a brief motivation explaining why the topic interests you and why your background would be a good fit.

Many projects benefit from strong technical skills (e.g., Python programming, data analysis, statistics, experimental methods). Experience with C#, sensing technologies, or hardware prototyping is important for some topics, but not required for all.

You are also welcome to propose your own topic, as long as it fits within the broad areas of HCI, Affective Computing, Cognitive Science, AR/VR, or human–AI interaction.
