MultiCUE
In our research project MultiCUE (www.multicue.nl), we examine how multilingual children and adults make use of non-verbal behaviors of another speaker, such as their eye gaze, gestures, facial expressions, and visual perspective to understand that other speaker. In a new EEG study, we investigate how multilingual and monolingual adults process verbal irony. More specifically, we are interested in whether monolinguals and multilinguals differ in the degree to which they rely on non-verbal cues to understand ironic sentences.
Data are collected through EEG recordings, a proficiency task and questionnaires. We are looking for students who can help with testing EEG participants (location Bushuis), recruiting participants and creating a data analysis pipeline.
We have got possibilities for projects and theses. Experience with EEG is highly recommended. Dutch proficiency is not necessary but is a plus.
